netflix’s brigderton depiction of queen charlotte as black supported by historians
Netflix show Bridgerton has received criticism, portraying Queen Charlotte as black. However, many historians say Queen Charlotte was descended from Margarita de Castro y Sousa, a black branch of the Portuguese Royal House. Her marriage to King George III in 1761 made her Queen of England. Portraits and descriptions of her also support her African lineage. The show is Netflix’s answer to Downton Abbey and has received positive reviews since its release in December.
